This should be interesting. What is a better steel in terms of edge retention, toughness....well, just plain old best!

I dont really know what INFI steel is really made of, but I have used a Natural Outlaw and All I can say is it's pretty tough and can hold it's edge for a long time.

INFI is a propriatary steel with a propriatary heat treat and is arugurably the best thing going. Do a search on Cliff Stamp's reviews, he seems to like it.

What you're asking is a Busse vs (insert makers name here), and this has been discussed more than a few times. Do a search on Busse, even more info. It's a love/hate thing with Busse depending on who your favorite maker is, or who you ask.

I carry a Busse EDC along with a Sebenza. I've not been able to hurt it, but then again I haven't been able to hurt my Swamp Rat blades either. 3V I can't say. I don't have a 3V blade. I do know that INFI (and SR101) is stronger than I am.

I'm not sure what you mean by hurting a knife. I would be interested in edge retention, since that's what I'm most interested in, such as which steel would hold an edge longer cutting cardboard or rope, for example.

3V is famous for its edge retention. Back when Jerry did his demonstration with rope cutting the INFI went through like 2700 cuts and they ran out of rope. I think this is kind of like asking if Ferrari or Lamborghini is better. You're at the top of the heap no matter which you go with.

I own several Busses and a couple Fehrmans and honestly couldn't give you a performance difference between them. Never, in use, have I taken either anywhere near their limits. INFI probably has a slight advantage in corrosion resistance. Other than that, I couldn't tell you.

I'm always happy to get a knife in either. :)

Edited to fix my number, since Eric's memory is better than mine. I just knew it was more than 2000. ;)

I would take a properly heat treated blade made out of either steel anyday.

Both steels have excellent reputations, but I will state that for me CPM 3V has one big advantage. I can get it on a wide variety of custom knives. INFI is available only on Busse knives. Not that I have anything against Busse knives, but I prefer to have more options.

I wonder how talonite would compare. Do a search for talonite knives and there are some pretty good reviews regarding edge holding.
