Hi guys.
You have to realize that I live in one of the states that,well...

I haven't seen these lights anywhere and have no idea of what they are.
What's the advantages of them and how do they work?

Are they longer lasting,batteries replacable,brighter,spots,etc,etc,etc???

They're tiny. I have one on my key-chain. Also some of them do have long battery life. The green light with a single battery lasts about 150 hours, continuous.

Two things, try the "search" function and you'll learn plenty. Also visit this web site: http://www.photonlight.com/ for more info.
They are very useful little lights that you'll be glad you have when its dark and you left your Surefire at home cause its too bulky. I have a green light(on time of 7 days, not too bright) and a turquoise light(on time of 12 hours, extremly bright). I am thinking of getting a narrow beam white. I just bought a few for Christmas presents and am impressed. The white light is more useful then the turquoise. There are a few web dealers who have them plus the Bladeforums store. Buy one for now(narrow beam white) and if ya like it buy more. If you don't like it stick it in your car for emergencies. They have about a 10 year shelf life. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.
Now is a "Krill" light similar or a different breed? I should've asked in the 1st post.Sorry!

Sometimes the search feature is really hard for me to sort through in order to find the info I am looking for, besides being lazy.I knew y'all would come through for me.
Many Thanks!!!!!!

Yvsa, get a GREEN Photon light. Then take it apart and pull the single Eveready CR2032 battery and slap in a pair of CR2016s.

Brightness *almost* doubles, battery life remains excellent. These suckers weigh less than a quarter, they're shockingly bright for their size especially the supercharged Green. You can navigate in total darkness, you'll ALWAYS have it on you.

Utterly indispensible. Total must-have. The Whites and Turquoises are better at map reading and other color definition in the dark, but the "supercharged green" is the brightest. My green was very functional in standard mode but boosting it was killer. It can throw a decent splash of green on the ceiling of a large theater.

Yvsa, save yourself..get TWO.

I've given them as gifts, the only colors I haven't touched are white, yellow, infrared. I plan to get either a white or another orange or maybe the yellow.

The original factory specs on a stock-condition green is a solid week of ontime. Per a lot of people's tests, they can really go almost double that and when you supercharge a green you're still at almost a week.

I find myself using it near-daily for "short but important bursts" if that makes sense and after a year, the original single battery was holding up fine. It's in my wallet now as a spare.

You can also supercharge a red but the boost isn't all that great, not like the green. White and some others are "already factory supercharged", while boosting an Orange will fry it I think...or was that the yellow?

Whatever...boosting is for Greens and Reds only. While the Red is theoretically better at "preserving your night vision", the total light output on even a boosted green is below what's needed to seriously shift your eyeballs so as long as you don't look straight at it, I really don't see a need for Red unless you work with animals that can't see that spectrum, or a photo lab or some other weird use.

those things are cool, and green would kick red's ass if they ever fought

Why are these being discussed anyways? I miss something, or just an off topic topic?

Now that we have photon LIGHTS, why can't we use the technology to make photon TORPEDOES?!

(...THAT would be on MY Xmas list...!)

I am afraid that I must disagree with my esteemed colleague, Jim March. He, BTW, is the one who turned me on (pun intended ) to the Photon lights, at the first KNIFEGNUGEN.

Tim Flanagan, the most knowledgeable purveyor of Photons and Krills, tested a 'Super' Photon (6V) in green, and this is what he had to say:

Using the
2 batteries on the green, however, I was able to get burntimes. It runs
for about 15 hours at SUPER bright levels, followed by out to
approximately 30 hours at about 80% of the normal 1-battery mode,
followed by eventual uselessness after about 36 hours and eventual
battery failure after 50 hours.

Tim can be contacted at noreastknives@bigfoot.com He has advised that the orange cannot be run at 6V, as it will burn out, and that the advantage of the yellow at 6V is negligable. Thus, the red and green are the two most suitable candidates for 6V use. While the red and green LED's will have a shortened life at 6V, ALL the Photon LED's are rated at 3V. Brian Avery, another knowledgeable Photon source, whose website is provided above by James Segura, advised that the LED life at 6V will still be several tens of thousands of hours, and if they blow, they are unconditionally guaranteed anyway.

Regarding Krill lights, they are most useful as marker lights. The extreme green 360 degree is the most useful light. It lasts for 60 hours on two AA alkaline batteries. These make great night lights. I gave my neighbors two of these for use with their new baby.

For information regarding night vision and its' preservation, check out this site: http://www.corvus.com/kniffen.htm

Hope this helps, Walt

Thanks Walt! Some posts on the Photon company website message board led (pun!) me to believe they ran longer than they apparantly do.

Ya know what? It doesn't matter, not for what they're really good at. See, every time I park my bike at night I use my photon to confirm certain switch settings and manipulate the lock and key. Takes all of about 1 minute. Navigating in a dark movie theatre takes maybe 30 seconds to a minute. Dealing with the screws on the back of a PC is maybe a minute or two.

Get the idea? 30 hours is WAY overkill. You *always* have your little buddy on you, you use it as needed, that's it. I've never had one stick in the "on" position accidently, ever. If you're heading out into the wilderness you need a "real" light with you anyways, the Photon is then relegated to backup use.

Your life is NOT complete without at least one Photon2 with you at ALL times

Yvsa,

Regardless of all of the jury rigging (all of which I'm defintely going to try), James Bond couldn't do better than a Photon II!
(I like the Red light, myself)
