Just picked up this little beauty today. I've never owned a fiddleback with white scales before and I have no idea what type or color of sheath would go best with this configuration. Do I go leather or kydex or a combo of both?.

Ivory linen micarta over natural canvas with a black G10 pinstripe.

Theres so many good leather benders out there, it's like choosing what to buy at Home Depot when you get those Christmas gift certificates. Do you go with a home improvement project supplies or take the selfish route and buy the newer, lighter 24 volt drill with lithium ion batteries that has twice the power and weights 1/3 the weight of your old nicad battery drill? Or do you make the wife happy and blow it all by updating your kitchen faucet? A man could go crazy weighting the options.

So if you have an idea or if you have a white scaled fiddleback, help a dude out and post it here.

Leather benders please chime in too.

Thanks guys and gals.

That is such a beautiful knife!!!! Nice score Duder. I would definitely wrap that baby up in a nice piece of leather that has been finished in the cordovan color.

Here is the original set of J. Oesser pants that I had made for this knife before I sold it to TK.

Thanks man. I'm thinking leather, but if the inside of the sheath is dyed in any way, it will end up discoloring the micarta. Which doesn't really bother me, but then it kinda does. Nothing beats the look of a nice leather sheath though.

I'd go white kydex with black tubing. would really look slick.
That would actually look sick!

Thanks for the pics and for chiming in Pete. I gave my wife pretty much the same leather dangler sheath from Mr. Oeser to house her Kephart. He really makes some awesome sheaths. I might just have to order another do the wife and I will have matching sheaths.

That color combo does look good, but black won't match my hiking socks.:D

I think the white with black, and the pink would go well together, just look at all the hello kitty stuff out there :D

Seriously though, thinking about how that natural macarta is going to darken over time with use, if it is to be a user and not a safe queen, I'd think a deeper rich brown would be a good compliment.

It will be used, but more for food and game prep. Would you say that the Oeser sheath is the deeper rich brown you were speaking of? If not, do you have a pic?

Another question I have is- How should I clean the micarta? Would Magic Eraser be too hard on the micarta?

For a sweet knife like that with the off white handle scales, nothing says class better that a deep brown or Chocolate colored leather sheath!

Yeah, the color of the Oeser sheath is about what I would go with personally.

Hmmm...on micarta on bolt on handles I tend to use windex, but so far with the micarta on epoxied handles I have only ever used warm water and liquid dish soap myself.

I'd go with a leather sheath in something like British Tan to match the pins and liners.

I've also been using Renaissance Wax on my micarta, wood and bone/stag handles. Seems to work well and preserves the natural color.

You can't go wrong with browns, either dark or medium to match the pin color (or a combination of the two :D). I've used white linen micarta for handle material and own a couple Fiddlebacks with that handle material. It's the worst there is for picking up dye residue in a sheath. I've stopped dyeing the interiors for that reason alone. If it gets stained, sometimes using acetone (fingernail polish remover) will take the stain out. A little wax on the handle will help repel some staining from food prep.

Ren wax also does a pretty bang up job of cleaning micarta

Ren wax huh? I'll have to check that stuff out. Thanks.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with a brown leather sheath. It's a classic look and you just can't go wrong with the durability.

I vote pink kydex Duder. At least it would match your socks!

If only they made pink argyle kydex I'd be set!

Thanks for the acetone tip! What kind of wax do you recommend?

A really talented kydex bender could probably do layered kydex with window pane cut outs in pink over lime green, just sayin' :)
