Thanks for the mountain of replies. I have never handled one of these knives, but have spent enough on others, practically, to buy 2!

Though I bought the BM Ozzy 942 - I will be giving it to my son and saving for the Sebenza. Now the question is small or large?

I have been carrying the BM 710 of similar dimensions and weight to the large, but have also been craving the smaller model. Yes, I know - get both. But which first?

Get the small. More versitle and legal just about everywhere. Fits perfect in the front pocket.

Geode,

I knew I wanted users so I decided to get them both second hand.

Buy which everone you can get the best deal on first.

I bought a large one first that was carried, but not used; because the guy couldn't bring himself to use it.

Then I got the small which was very lightly used.

I save $50 on each knife.

If you buy them slightly used you can sell them for the price you paid.

Rick, as always, makes a good point. If it were me, and I know its not, but if it were, I would buy the large. I say this because to me 3.5" is not that large a blade, yet with the Sebenza design it will do everything you need a knife to do. I guess a small would also, I just like a little bigger knife is all.

Either way you go you are getting the finest edged instrument available! A Sebenza is precision personified!

The large is more bang for the buck. Ask yourself if there are places you commonly go for which a 3.5" blade is too large. If the answer is that you are in such places a lot (for example working in a suit or other thin clothes), then buy the small because as others have said, it can go anywhere. If on the other hand 90% of your carry opportunities are rural or you are wearing appropriate clothes to support the heavier knife, the sheeple won't object, etc., then by all means buy the large.

All depends on your style of carry and quantity of frog backs in your wallet. . .

Personally. . .get a large. And make it a "Classic."

The Large. When you are wearing gloves and want to scrape out the grass clippings and debris from underneath your rotary lawnmower, the large is easier to handle and does the job quicker.

When cutting lots of corrugated board, the large presents more edge so you can distribut the wear longer before dullness sets in.

The Small. Everything else.

Well, here's a pic that may help you decide - its got the small & large 'benzas next to the Socom and mini-Socom.

I just a month ago bought my first Sebenza and I went through this same thing. I got the Large regular and to me it feels like the perfect size. I would tell you to get the large.

I think my large is the perfect size for me but I do not carry it in my pocket. I clip it in my wasteband just in front of my right hip and it rides securely and comfortably there. Its not that obvious, even with the lanyard hanging out and I haven't found that the size has scared anyone....but then again I am in Texas. They don't scare easy here.

I got a large classsic 2000 for my first Seb, and I'm glad I did. The large is a good sized knife, but the shape lets you do smaller detail work without a hassle. Unlike a lot of other large knives, you can actually carry a large Seb without the need for a second small knife too.

Small, large, like Rick says go with your wallet. You know you're going to end up with an Umfaan too don't you?
