Okay, One More Question About Folders!!!

Should a knife maker who has been making fixed blades for say...4 years, but has just started making folders, mark his first folder in a way to let folks know it's their first?? Whew!! Like say having the inside of the liner engraved with... This is the first Cooper's Benchmade Knives folder ever made. Or simply having three zeros engraved on the bolster to denote a prototype? It would seem to me a maker's very first folder would have more value potential than even a prototype. What do you folks think?? All this is assuming the maker will one day be well known. Thanks and take care! Michael

i personally would like to see something like "first folder made" engraved somewhere inside and the name of the maker on the blade... ray

I would rather have hid my first folder and not put anything on it hahahaha That would be pretty cool unfortunatly I don't have mine about 30 min after I made it my uncle come over and bought it for 100.00 he show's that thing to everyone I tryed to trade him one of my modern good looking ones for it but no dice he want's to keep that one

Yep, I think you should mark your first folder. I know of makers numbering every knife they ever made - and I know of collectors who enjoy tracing down the history of an older serial numbered knife. Well known or not - I think some numbering system would be great.

Tbark, it's ashame we don't keep our first ones or atleast take lots of pictures of them. I have made and sold so many that I wish I had taken pictures of but didn't.
Thanks for the input folks!! I'm hoping this one will turn out good enough to be a seller, for two reasons. One, I am so tired of making fixed blades that if I can't start making folders, I'm gonna jump off the Navarre Bridge. Two, I need the money real bad!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't it be something to be the only person on the planet who owned Tim Herman's very first folder!!!!!take care!! Michael

I like the idea of makers numbering or coding their creation, whatever form it takes.
My truck has a serial # that tells my insurance co more about it than even I know.

still have my first folder...put 001 on it. also have a 'prototype' stencil....you can get numbers from marking methods cheap..as there is no artwork charge for them...just tell them how big you want them...i like the .092 size.

HI!
I think three zeros is a good number to start with. The proceed to two zeros and to one zero and 1,2,3...
Greetings

BTW:Bruckner's first symphony was marked number one; but after his death someone found a symphony by Bruckner and marked it the number zero; and they found another one and marked it thr double zero.
