Tonight was a learning experience. I was showing my four main user khuks to a friend of mine. Since I'd whittled the handle on my M43, it was looking a little less than stellar, so we decided we'd coat it with a little stain and boiled linseed oil.
Hmmm... what to do in the meantime?
Hmmm... so you say that dryer doesn't work?
Hmmm... so these knives have a lifetime warranty?
Now, in all fairness, maybe it was asking a little much. But, you know, a fellow only lives once. It started with my Sirupati by Sher. Then my WWII by Tara Bhadur. Then my pen knife by Lachu. Now, the pen knife rolled easily, but the rolling of the tip was easily fixed. The WWII looked like it *maybe* showed some roll, but that may have been from hitting concrete blocks on the end of a cut from a week before when I lazily hammered it straight. I was also swinging it so that part of the blade near the end that's kind of like a yokote would stick, and it punched through the dryer with little effort.
And then there was the Sirupati. The armour piercing khukri. It went through parts, often through double layers. The drum didn't slow it down. We definitely spent the most time stabbing the sirupati through the dryer. And the tip never rolled. It sorta dulled, as though we were using it on soft, abrasive media. But no roll. None. My friend commented to me, "I can't believe I'm doing this to your knives, and I'd never do this to one of mine. But dude, I think I want one of these now." He couldn't believe how soft it felt on a file compared to how it refused to roll or deform punching through all that metal.
So I learned that all HI knives are tanks. And that Sher seems to use depleted uranium armour on his tanks.
Of course this pretty much means I have to get me another M43, hanshee, pen knife, and bolo all by Sher.
