This might be old news, ('bout five years old, in fact,) but I just had to gush about it some. Apparently, a while back some industrious individuals did a total conversion of Doom64 (originally for the Nintendo 64,) for the PC! This is great. . . I haven't played this game for more than ten years, and it's even better with mouse support. It has most of the same basic game mechanics as classic Doom, but with ultra-smooth (by comparison,) graphics, updated sprites and a creepy-as-hell ambient soundtrack. Anywho, I just thought I'd shout about it for those who might not have heard. Here's the site for the download (Clicky Linky) All you need to supply is a copy of the Doom2 WAD file. Not sure about system requirements, though.

Enjoy, fellow Doom fans

Sweet! I have Doom 64 on my PC already using PJ64 an N64 emulator but the controls on this one are much better, thanks for posting this.

I got this conversion about six months ago. Totally sweet. I really love how Doom 64 has the feel of Quake. I challenge you to get all the parts for the laser weapon without cheating, too. I couldn't do it, and I consider myself a Doom vet. There are some really great puzzles and level designs to be found for sure. If you like the original Doom or Quake at all, this is worth picking up.

If you don't already have a legal copy of Doom, they're pretty cheap on Ebay. The aforementioned WAD files will also open up a world of user-created content for you.

Some other game news:

EA has released the original Command and Conquer as a free download.

I've been playing this fellow's Star Wars games all week. 3D flying with hundreds of ships onscreen at the same time: http://www.bruneras.com/fgames.htm
