OKAY...what can the Commander do that the Mini-Commander can't ???

Hello all,

I'm just wondering what the pros and cons are about the regular vs. the mini commander.

I've been in search for a quality SD knife and landed on the commanders. I really had my mind set on the regular commander, until I realized that I just might need to pull it out every now and then for utility purposes.

I would love to carry a separate knife dedicated for utility, but I usually just can't carry that much stuff. So, I began to think that the mini Commander would be less threatening when being "pulled out" for light utility and more practical for light cutting.

What are your thoughts on this? I know there are many loyal carriers of the Mini Commander out there, and I think it is probably because of its practicality.

But, assuming that I keep the edge sharp, and have the proper training (FMA), would you say that I would be able to rely on my Mini-Commander for SD almost as much as I would the regular Commander?

Just messing around with different sized knives, it seems like the smaller ones are much easier to maneuver, and may have an advantage for speed, whereas, of course, the larger blades have better cutting area, etc.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for all of your comments in advance. ;)

hmmm....either everyone is on independence day vacation, or just tired of posting about commanders...?? :D

The Mini-Commander is just as good IMHO as the regular commander. In fact, I'd say it's better. The Mini-Commander has the same thickness of blade, liners, and handles. It's built like a tank.

As for scaring people, the Mini-Commander is only a little bit less scary than its big brother. I don't know if it's ideal for a sheeple-friendly knife.

I would go with the mini Commander. It's cheaper and only slightly smaller. I carry one daily and it isn't really a mini in my opinion. Buy one. You will be glad you did.:)

The mini is my edc blade and I love it.If I'm wearing pants the mini is with me...always.

I would how ever buy my next Emerson with a satin finish, the B/T dose not wear as well as I expected.

Buy the Mini, you won't be disapointed.

kj

btw..I found this knife great for most G/P cutting tasks but because of the blade shape, opening envelopes can be a frustrating/hazardous undertaking..
:D

The mini commander has the following advantages:
-smaller
-lighter
-fits in pocket nice and discreetly
-less intimidating (to people who don't realize that the size of the knife matters little)

The commander has the following advantages
-larger
-heavier
-fits in hand very well
-more intimidating (to people who don't realize that the size of the knife matters little)

Choose wisely...

i think the difference is minimal. I would go with the largest thats legal for your jurisdiction, or if you are on a budget, go with what you can afford.

Thanks all, for the advice.

I WISH I COULD AFFORD TO GET BOTH !

By the way, is the regular commander still comfortable to carry with most all types of clothing (pants, shorts, dress slacks, etc.)?

Thanks again.

It's pretty good with most anything.

Perhaps another issue to consider is the wave opening feature. It works well with jeans, but I wouldn't recommend it on Armani slacks, or worse yet, a rented tuxedo. One or two openings shouldn't have an effect, but after some time the wear on the dress slacks will be visible.

Also, depending on what kind of shorts one would wear, and how light, loose, and short they are, the drawign the knife might pull the shorts up and scare the person you are confronting in more ways than one...
:D

LOL malazo, thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Or, better yet, I'll make sure I wear boxer briefs under my shorts :D

By the way, how's your experience with carrying the commander around in Los Angeles in general? That's where I am.

thanks
