Okay, What do we call this affliction? We need something official.

I think we all are definitely Knifeaholics, but what do we really call this disease, fun though it may be?

We need to adopt a name for it, and maybe some Ph D. candidate in Psychology can earn his degree by publishing the new and incredible disease that eats holes in bank accounts, brings strange individuals together to talk in corners, causes said individuals to spend inordinate amounts of time playing with sharp objects, etc.

Lets get creative here. This could actually be a documentable disease, and we could all be test cases.

What do we call it?

Daniel,

do a search of this particular forum, a while ago this disorder was clearly asessed as BAD (Blade Acquisition Disorder).

I like that: BAD . I definitely have it. But what about addressing the fascination we have for knives, not necessarily the Aquisition of. Some people here swear by one knife and one knife alone. We all love the designs, but not all of us "have to have them all."

DD

"The Unexplianed Strong Attraction to Sharp Pointy Things of An Undisclosed of Legnth; Including But Not Restricted to Automatic Knives, Balisongs, Swords, Hatchets, Custom Blades and Other Hand Held Items; Accompanied by A Strong Desire To Collect Multiple Examples Of The Preceeding Groups OR To Posess And Love Single Units For The Extent Of Their Lives Only To Be Buried With Them Or Pass Them To Their Heirs At The Verge Of Death"

And you can quote me on that.

For some time, we MDs, and others on the forum have referred to this disorder as the 'steel virus.'

I take full responsibility for introducing BAD (blade acquisition disorder)to this forum. Actually, I got the idea from a pipe smokers forum in which they have 2 disorders; PAD (pipe acquisition disorder) and TAD (tobacco acquisition disorder). I think it is totally appropriate and would like to see its use continue.
As Daniel Dorn mentioned, I think we also need a diagnosis for fascination of knives, as well.
Any ideas?

Thank you.
FM.

How about "hoplophilia"? The love of weapons, I believe from the ancient Greek. It might be too general if we're looking for strictly knife terms, but otherwise would be good. We are hoplophiles who suffer (?) from hoplophilia.
