okc ranger rd6 blade width

I was wondering the width of the blade on an rd6 (the measurment from spine to edge at its widest point). I'm trying to find out the compatibility width the spec ops combat master sheath.

This may or may not help you. My original not Ontario Ranger RD-6 measures 1-5/8 spine to edge at widest point. I can't imagine the OKC version would be any different.

that does help (assuming of course the knife blade width isn't any wider than on the original), I would rather have an original anyways but I can't afford the original so the okc will have to do.

another question, will the rd6 fit the short combat master sheath? I know the website says 6" but I have heard of more than a few that had 6" blades that were still just a tad to big for the sheath.

I been thinking about picking up the RD7, but maybe the RD6 will be better for what I want....

Sorry alittle off topic...

The RD-6 will fit in the small but it is a tad big. You can also heat the liner to shape it a bit better if the specific combo of knife and sheath aren't ideal. The original and OKC versions are the same thickness.

How does the quality of OKC compare to say esee?

From what I hear it depends on the knife, now if we are comparing say an ontario rat 4 to an esee 4 the esee will probably be better if for no other reason the fit and finish. When comparing the ontario ranger series however to an esee knife the ontario will again not be as good with fit and finish but will be stronger unless you compare it to an esee 5 which would probably be just as durable.

well I went ahead and contacted justin at ranger knives about hime making me one custom, by the sounds of it its gonna look like the bastard child of an rd6 and an esee-5, just how I like it. Now the problem is what should I do for a sheath? I need something that can be attached on a molle pal system and in multicam, I'm getting ready to deploy so I don't have alot of time to wait on a custom sheath on top of waiting for my knife to get here (I'd have to send them the knife after its made and that would just drag it out). So I need ideas here for something that fits the bill.

The knifes blade dimensions will be 6" from tip to the scales, 1 5/8" wide and 1/4 thick.

If you explain to Justin that you are deploying and are real nice he can make you a Kydex sheath. You can also have him send it direct to Rainwalker or someone else and that will save you some time.

I'll talk to him and see if I can't work something out, as of right now it looks like I would recieve the knife just be for ntc. After that I'm going to be gone for a month and I deploy when I return, the goal would be to have what ever I plan on taking with me ready before ntc. as of the moment the measurments I requested for the knife are small enough that I could fit it in a spec ops combat master if I cannot find anything better.

Really when it comes down to it, all the sheath has to be is molle compatable because I plan on mounting it on my chest.
