Hey all well finally getting the chance to put up some pics of the OKCA show.

The wife bought a new point and shoot camera that she could toss in her purse, so she was off doing what she does best at the show and that is taking pictures :D.

We had a lot of fun, meet lots of great people and finally got to meet STeven Garrson. Was very nice talking with you Steven.

First is a shot over my table as we just finished setting up Friday,

Saturday morning started out with their opening ceremony, this year they had the Eugene Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums come and play,

Here she caught Dave Lisch not paying attention, I heard he was begging her to delete this one :D,

She went over to talk with John Davis, while waiting took this pic. In the glass case is damascus tiles from many well known makers, I bet I spent an hour looking at them myself,

And a couple more friends David and Sherri Mayer,

Is the implication that I am NOT a great person, Mike?:D

Nice meeting you too. Apologize for being sort of scattered. When I used to work the show for the entire 3 days, was very organized, and made sure to spend time with everyone, looking at knives, and conversing.

This time, had about 9 hours TOTAL over the course of two days to cover the floor, conduct business and chat....it worked out to about 5-10 minutes maximum per person. Blade is even worse....and am a drooling idiot by Sunday night.

Great candid shots, you have skills beyond making excellent knives!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well Steven so far your a great guy in my books ;), just wanted to point you out since the wife was running around the show taking pictures when you stopped by, hence the reason your candid shot never happened.

All photos are compliments of the misses, she also does all my knife photography.

WOW 9 hours, you did not give yourself much time, think you spent close to 10 minutes at my table. Hope you give yourself more time for Blade.

It isn't a matter of giving myself time.:(

The more you are around, the more people want to talk to you, and I REALLY try to be accommodating.....at Blade in 2008, we were launching the CKCA and that ate into available business hours every day....this year, the most I might have to do is man the booth for an hour or two, and am giving a tour of some Loveless dealers on Sunday...that's a couple hours right there.

Figure I am on the show floor for 20 hours for the weekend. At 10 minutes per visit, it works out to 120 "visits"....that just isn't enough.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Steven, I'm kicking myself for not getting a picture of you. I do those shows and normally forget I even brought my camera. I really liked your rain stopper/hat protector. :D Did you find a sheath maker?

Maybe you should get a table make them come to you ;). 20 hours on the floor is a long time.
Problem with a table is a) they are expensive at Blade, b) you are pretty much stuck behind the table the whole show c)I like walking around...good exercise! Besides, most of the people I visit with are makers, and they have a hard enough time getting from behind the table to take a pee, as you know.

Yeah, Mr C. is going to fix it up with some of his period leatherwork....gonna be a nice package, looks just like one of his deluxe patch knives, but the steel is real special.

I've always been a big Herman Melville fan and couldn't help but notice the harpoon on the table.

Ray: Could you give use a close up?

Thanks,
Gary

Hey I know these guys. Nice pictures but it looks slow. Friday and Saturday there was thousands of people but Sunday was a quiet day and perfect for visiting.

Gary, This was my first and only harpoon. All the real harpoons were made from truck leaf spring, hay rake tine, and steel from a two man cross cut saw. :D Here's a picture of the 3 pieces before I welded them together. I never did get a good picture of the harpoon so this one will have to do. About the time I finished this one up I found out that all the original harpoons were 100% wrought iron.

Very cool, Ray. Thanks.

Mike, Sorry we couldn't visit more. It was hard to get away from the table for more than few minutes at a time. I sure did enjoy seeing everyone that made the show. Look forward to taking with you again.
