Okuden Sheath Mod

I can't sleep because the Busse website is still messing with my head so...

I decided to make a simple sheath mod. A while back I scored a BA-E w/ 2 kydex sheaths. Both had tek-lock (sp) on them. My favorite of the two is the Okuden. However, I don't always like how the blade rides with the tek-lock. I like my blades closer to me such as in a pancake sheath. At least my small-mid sized blades. So I decided to do a quick mod with some para-cord. Here are some pics.

This side is set up for vertical carry. I could also add an extra loop and set this side up for horizontal carry as well.

A couple pics. I should have taken before and after pics but I can tell you that the blade and sheath rides much closer to my side. Feels much better IMHO.

Just thought I'd share while I save up for a LeatherHog pancake sheath. ;)

Nice job Tyrkon. I also prefer to have small knives flush with my body for carry. What I do sometimes is reverse the sheath so that the tec-lok is facing out and since they are right hand sheaths its a reverse edge draw, seems to do the trick for me.

Nice.

If I got mine like that I'd end up slicin off my "love" handles..  ...well, on the right side anyhows...

Nice one Tyrkon! Something along that line had occurred to me recently, but your execution is way beyond what I was thinking of. Looks great! I don't suppose you'll mind if I shamelessly copy that? :D

Great job.

Youv'e given me a great idea.

Keep up the good ideas and keep taking pics so i can rip off your ideas. LOL

As I remember his sheaths, they are plenty strong enough to cut an 1/8th inch wide slot between eyelets, giving you enough room to just put your belt through.

I use a Dremel tool for this kind of work.

You can even put the belt around the knife doing this, wear it plenty close that way.

You get lots of close carry options that way.

Awesome idea papathud.

MVF: copy away. You'll probably improve it.

That's why I love this forum. So much good info. to share. Keep'em comming guys. ;)

I hear you Hammy....I like the idea of close-fitting, high ride sheaths, but that damned "love handle interference" gets me every time :o

Yup, those of us that carry a little extra around the middle for those lean times tend to like the Tek-Lok as it puts the knife out a little so it doesn't sit at too great an angle. Re-sheathing is easier with one as well. ;)

Excellent mod though TL. I'm sure trim guys all over will start doing the same thing. Looks like a great idea.

Tyrkon,

Sorry, not my idea, all his sheaths I have played with already had the slots and had leg straps(all were for bigger knives)

I just thought it would also work for the sheath pictured.

I plan to cut such slots on the pancake Paddle style sheaths I am getting for my AK's(For Mall Ninja Carry) From Buy Brown.

David Brown of Buy Brown will cut the slots when he makes the sheaths if asked, But I do not yet know where I want them so prolly better for me to cut my own.

I forgot to mention that paracord was used so as to be utilized in emergency situations. I forgot to take measurements regarding the amount of cord attached to the sheath so if anyone else trys this, or something similar, please let us know how much cord is on the sheath. Thanks.
