when the discussion of finishes and concrete chopping comes around, as it often does, most of you will remember i will speak of my first real knife.

i never posted a pic as it was always away from the camera, it hates cameras and has no use for one.

well i finally made some extra effort to capture the damned thing and shoot some pics.

i'm around 53 and about 42 years ago my father, who wasn't able to continue hunting, gave me his hunting knife. this was a very big deal for a kid of 11 years and along with it came a 94 winchester.

well sh1t, i was set, had my folder and a great rifle, not much got away from the 3 of us.

now the pics, i don't have a fricking clue as to the steel that was used on this old folder. all i have ever done after a kill was to clean it with soap n water, dry it and wipe some 3 in 1 oil on it.

if this schrade that's about 55 years old, eating 3 scabbards and has lopped off my fingers more than once doesn't look brand new... then ill eat my wives shorts!

the morel of this story is if you don't go out and use your knives, then your kids will hock them when your dead, and some other bastid will enjoy them.

so now this old hunter which still shaves hair is retired. i hope to give it to one of my grand kids if they take to knives and such.

and last but not least....

jerry, I NEED A DAMNED BUSSE FOLDER!!! :grumpy:

I probably still have the pattern around here. :) The stitches didn't come out of it yet did they? ;)

I was just thinking about my first knife ever. I was 6 or 7 and my old man got a brand new Victorinox swiss army knife. I wanted one so bad, so the next weekend my parents got me a knock off at Jack Kolbys Swap Meeet in San Diego. Even at 7 I noticed it wasn't the same quality as the Victorinox! Really!

Holy Crappin' Thunder!!!!   Those are nice pics!!!!

Come on Skunk. . . spill the beans. . . who ACTUALLY took the pics????

Vicki. . . time to fess up. . . . I know that ol' slurry eye didn't take 'em. . . First of all they're in focus. . . secondly, the color is right. . . thirdly, I can tell that they're knives. . . . Come on now!!! . . . . Who REALLY took the pics??????

Nice job Vickster!!!!!

Jerry

Here’s my heirloom :D

It was the result of a train trip to the big smoke in 1957 (Sydney) and was the best they had in the shop, plus some ammo and a .303 Jungle Carbine as well as a military saddle scabbard..

It also was the result of my savings from droving cattle from Burren Junction western NSW to the Riverina district around 1000 miles all told. But, was less terrifying than the trip to Sydney. :D
I was just a fresh faced boy at the time.. ;):D

The blade has worn down considerably over the years, the leather sheath has remained as solid as day one.. thanks to regular applications of saddle dressing. (coacholine)
