Can't let Roger steal all the fun! (Good job, Matt.)
There comes a point here in Illinois after the first of Dec, and we don't have any venison in the freezer, when we say "If it's brown - it's down!"
This is what I got last night on the way back to my truck!
Anyway, that knife I'm using is the knife I forged when I went to Ed Fowler's "Seminar of the High Performance Blade" in '05.
I have always found it entertaining when guys show up at my house - which is rather convenient for dressing deer - and they pull out 5 or 6 knives to dress their single deer.
This knife was forged from my 1984 1" square 5160 and heat treated according to Ed's formula.
Mind you, this is the second deer I have field dressed, split rib cage, cut out back straps and tenderloins, skinned and quartered, cut through neck, tail bone, etc.
(Please forgive that out of focus wheel barrow full of quarters!)
She's ready for the next deer, and I have not sharpened her yet.
It's amazing what can be done with a simple piece of steel.
I think we're all in the right place.

Nice buck, Karl.
Sounds like you may have butchered

Really like these kind of threads.

Congratulations, Karl! What a beauty! Somebody is going to be doing a lot of good eating, to be sure. Time to break out some backstrap butterflys and whip up a batch of biscuits!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Nice buck Karl...! Congrats.

BTW: That plastic one will need a longer cook than the
meaty one...;-)

Ya can't eat the Horns:p Nice one Karl!! Good to see one of your own knives Doin the deed:thumbup:

Looks a little older than the buck I sometimes see on my dog walks.

Nice job, Karl.

Paul

Nice Buck Karl, thanks for the story and pics. It's getting about that time (if it's brown it's down) here too :)

Karl, my brother took this one here on our place. One of the largest bucks I've ever seen in southern Missouri. Has a nice rack but looks small because the body is so large...

Don,

That buck is HUGE!

My son killed his first animals this year. One antelope in central Wyoming, and a WT doe in the pasture behind my shop.

Here is a picture of his antelope ( 300yds with his 7mm-08)

and while I am not one for one-upmanship......I did build the knife that cleaned it AND the rifle that killed it...

This picture is just for grins....one of the many stalks for antelope we made.

I made all but one of the knives we had on this trip ( 4 hunters, 6 animals taken)....the one I didn't make....ended up with a quarter sized chip stuck in one of the critter's pelvis. That aught to teach them not to buy cheap knives!!

Good showing, Bailey!
I couldn't help but notice your son's single popper. Mine is just like it only with a .50 black powder barrel.
Great guns and lots of calibers.

nice buck Karl, nothing harder to kill then a late in the season, hunter chased mature whitetail buck.
Our ML season opens in 2 more weeks and my ol .54's ready, the way it looks right now, its going to be mighty cold.

Don, isn't that the buck you had penned up and was corn feeding when I was there last year. :D:D

Bailey, that boy looks awfully proud, thats what its all about. congrats to him on his first antelope.
