After handling a friend's Compact Wayfarer, the search was on for one of these "production" knives.

Found a beautiful piece on a purveyor site...red C-Tek, bearings, hammer-finished zirc bolsters, floating back spacer and clip. Beautiful 3.5 in compound grind CTS-XHP blade, really sharp and fires like a rocket. Helluva knife and a usable carry, makes quick work of peeling and quartering an apple. The only one I've seen of this configuration.

After posting a pic of this knife I get a message from the *owner* of Olamic Cutlery, just to say hi and make sure everything is up to expectations. Now, I've had a knife or two and this has never happened. After chatting a bit I inquire about my preference for the old ivory micarta, and though I like the red C-Tek (it actually shimmers with different reds) it sure would be nice to see some Westinghouse on this great knife. :)

Eugene (the owner of Olamic) responded, to my surprise, that he would be glad to make one in whatever configuration desired (!). He specifically mentioned that custom orders take "weeks, not months" (!). Wow, kid in the candy store or what!

Well, we rapidly worked out the details in a professional, concise manner; Eugene asking specifics I wouldn't have thought of and making the whole thing come together simply and promptly. It was above and beyond of Eugene to actually search out the micarta I wanted for scales, asking if the product was correct before acquiring it. Remember....this is a "production" knife!

Anyway to make a long story slightly less long, I couldn't be more pleased with this knife (either of them to be honest). It's a great carry and cuts like a demon! A couple more pics...

Thanks again Eugene, your company does work it should be proud of.

Eugene's level of service is on a completely different level.

I truly enjoy hanging out and talking with him at shows.

I happily consider Eugen Solomonik a friend and find him to have an unusually sharp mind and excellent sense of humor.

While I wouldn't necessarily consider these custom knives, they are built in the finest tradition of benchmade cutlery.

My preference is for your newest....it was a special order built for Michael and the grinds and finish are of a higher level, as is the overall attention-to-detail.

Love their knives, have a little damascus Persian neck knife number with Blaze orange G10 scales sitting next to me right now!

Best Regards,
