I've been wanting to try a Wayfarer 247 for a while and yesterday finally snagged a plain jane model. As I'm browsing Olamics site to see about upgraded hardware, I came across their 247 Trade-in program. Basically, it says you can send them your 247 in any condition, as long as it's complete, functional, and unmodified, and they will give you full MSRP towards the purchase of a new upgraded model 247...you just pay the difference.
Example: I pay $325 for a used base 247, I want a $545 model. They will give full new price of $395 for mine, I pay $150 difference, and I get brand new $545 model.

Pretty neat concept, I think. Anyone else heard about this, or more importantly, actually done it?

I have one I traded for and I've only got about 200 in it. So, I'm interested and found this:
"This program does not run year-round. Current trade-in time frame is August 1st until September 15th."

Just saw that too. Still, even if there is only a short window of opportunity annually, I think it's worth hanging on to and taking advantage of. Especially if you get a good deal on one.

Never having done it, it also seems like an awesome opportunity. I can't quite figure out why Olamic do it, except good will.

From the conversations with them at the Blade West, then communications online, etc. They seem to be VERY customer service oriented. They want the customer to be happy and their experience with Olamic to be a positive one.

Wish several other makers would take note.

I agree, the trade in deal IS a hell of a deal.

Thanks for making this deal known with this thread. I missed the boat this year, but I definitely won’t miss it if they repeat the offer next year. My 247 PJ is a great knife, but my desire to have something closer to the top of the Olamic menu is a hard thing to deal with. I hope to solve that problem next fall.

Are you guys sure this option exists for knives purchased secondhand? I haven't looked at the program details recently; but I could understand making the offer to original purchasers...extending it to buyers of used knives - not so much.

That's pretty cool idea.

Straight from their website. Does not matter where you got it or what you paid...

They're super awesome to work with, this seems like just another reason to want to buy from them even if I don't have a 247 to take advantage of it with.

I really don't need another acid rain Swish, but then again they have so many options I could get one that was pretty different looking. Hmmm, I wonder if they're making another batch of Swishes any time soon.

The ones listed on the trade in page were just ones we pre-made in case people didn't want to wait for a build. The program works for other new builds that are not listed there. You guys pretty much covered the rest in this thread but just to confirm... no it does not matter where you got the knife or how many owners it had; yes they all come with a pivot tool.

Scrolling down farther on that page it lists a trade request form and a list of several "fancy" 247s. Looks like there is a stipulation that the trade must be made toward one they have on hand. Still, it's just a really cool gesture!
