Folks -

Just got a real nice 2 line 110 with sheath. All is well except I can only unlock the blade if I press the thing against a hard corner like my desk. Any ideas how to make this easier? Send to Buck??

I’ve heard warm soapy water, and a good thorough rinse. Some lube, and working it back and forth.

If it were me, I’d send it back to Buck because they can make it look new again - my skills don’t go that far :D

Thx BP. I'm going to oil it up and work it back and forth like you suggested and then chat with Buck on Monday and see what they say.

Any other thoughts guys?

Most of the time this issue can be eased by pressing on the tang under the sharp edge of the blade while press the back spring release. I have had several lock backs with that issue and pushing on the tang while doing the normal release has always worked and in time they will wear in and work as they should. I hope you can understand the method I am trying to explain...

If you send her in to Buck, do yourself a favor, and request the "Edge 2000" sharpening, not the "historically accurate"/"historically correct" sharpening they did back in the day.
The Edge 2000 geometry is better. 28°~32° inclusive, (they try for 30° inclusive), instead of 50° to 60° inclusive, and the Edge 2000 is a lot easier to sharpen, than the edges they had back in the day.

Don't get a blade replacement, unless absolutely necessary. The two dots have a 440C blade. If you get the blade replaced, you'll get a standard 420HC blade with the current date code.
When I asked about sending my 2 dot in about a year ago, which had suffered a snapped off tip before I got it. A replacement blade in S30V, 5160, or any other "advanced"/special order steel, (custom shop or dealer SFO) was not an option, at any price.
They didn't have any production 440C blades left, either. :(

Let us know which route you take. :)

I’ve had good luck with a thorough wash with dawn dish soap, then soaking in WD-40 overnight.

After that, work the pivot a lot, then start locking and unlocking. Be sure to throw some oil in the pivot after you work it a while. The WD-40 works good to “unstick” things, but it doesn’t make the best lubricant.

If you still can’t get it how you want it to be, Buck will send it back looking and working like new and sharper than a demon with laserbeam eyes.

Guys, thanks for the input. Sent it off to Buck yesterday with a couple of other 110's. Didn't know about the Edge 2000 geometry sharpening when I sent them but I'll call Buck and ask them to do that. Thx afishhunter.

I’m getting ready to load up and send out a 302 I got for cheap. I can’t wait to see it come back looking pretty much brand new. Once it goes to Buck, there’s really nothing else to worry about. They take good care of our knives up there.
