Just for fun I stropped one of my 2-dot 110s today and here's what it did. The hair was from my wife's brush, and I cut it free hanging -- held straight down between thumb and forefinger:

...Exactly why I love that 440C Keith...Always has sharpened up great for me too...:thumbup:

I have to laugh when i hear folks talking about the old 110's and how they were hard to sharpen.I have yet to see whats so hard about putting a razor edge on any Buck steel they ever used.440C was some excellentr steel ,I wonder how good it would be today with a bos heat treat coming out of the buck plant, with the newer edge 2k.

...Now that's a "fantasy steel" that I'd be all over like a bug on a wind shield...:D:p

Is 440c hard to come by nowadays,or is 420hc a better buy for them?either way, they should do up some for the custom shop anyway as another choice we can always use another choice.lol

...440C apparently chews up their tooling pretty bad and they prefer to fine blank the 420HC now since about 1994 or so...I'd guess they could revive a bit of 440C for nostalgic reasons for some Limited Editions...:)

That's my older brother word for word.

He hasn't owned a Buck since the 80's, cause he couldn't get an edge on it. Of course his kid brother that suggested maybe it was his sharpening technique that was wrong, can't be right! :D :D

...No one's lil' brother ever knew anything Jeff......LMBO...Just ask everyone's older brothers...

...One thing about that old 440C to remember as well is that it wasn't heat treated using Paul B as a mentor of the process. It was done using Buck's old proprietary process...It sure is good stuff too...:)

Razor, you strike a note with me. I cannot count the men I know who don't know how to sharpen a kitchen knife for the wife. 440C is a good all around fine cutlery steel. One of my favorites too. DM
