Just wondering if the old CS ak-47 with the ultra lock is a good choice for a defensive knife.I prefer the aluminium (thats aluminum for the americans :D) scaled version.

Well, the blade is a little short at 3.5" but you can choke way back on the handle (for extra reach to poke the bad guy's jugular) because of the length and pommel. The pommel is made of grivory or zytel and seems like you could use it as an impact tool. I don't particularly fancy it as a SD knife but i'm sure it would get the job done. It will open via the thumb plate in "wave" fashion on a hard snag if speed in deployment is a concern. It isn't as smooth opening as a BM axis knife and it has a half stop that makes it seem even less smooth. But, it is an absolute beast of a knife with a 4mm thick (SHARP!)hollow ground blade and it's very well made for it's price point. Now, get on your flame proof suit for all the people who are going to tell you knives aren't for SD.

I know a knife isnt anyones first choice, but if i ever need it,it'll be there. Also because i need a tough knife that will take some....moderate abuse :D (flame-proof suit ready ;))

I think it should handle adequately. Since it has the wave-like feature, it is readily deployed should you need it. However, it's quite weighty. I've got one (rather, I had one, but sold it for this reason) that I never really carried cause it's chunky and thick.
