Old AK47 vs new

Excuse me as I have almost no idea what you are asking.

These have not been available for months. This is yet to be released in bulk.
This is a new upgraded model with new steel and coating.
Im not sure what was available in the 90's but this lock is recent and can take a beating more than almost any other.

They are tough as nails. Besides a compression lock, this is a great slicer and the lock is second to none.

Best of luck.
Matt

If I was vague: I was asking if the ak47 produced now, the hxp, was of the same quality as what was produced over 15 years ago. Somewhere between then and now, Cold Steel, like other companies, cut costs somewhere and quality suffered. I owned an ak47 for a short time back in the 90's and if I remember correctly, it was a pretty rugged and sturdy knife. Fast forward 10 years and that same quality did not seem to be there. I was wondering with this new knife if that quality had returned.

It is the same build as the AK in Aus 8 with the tri ad lock. If that means anything. The old ones had an axis style lock.
These new ones are robust and reliable. All G10 build to cut weight as well.
I can not weigh in on the fixed blades as I never owned one.

I believe he is referring to the original ones, that were made of aluminium and featured a totally different lock (something similar to the Axis if I'm not mistaken). The Tri-Ad is a proven performer and with the upgraded steel etc I think this is definitely an improvement over the old ones. G-10 is also lighter than aluminium and tough as nails.

The originals were incredibly overbuilt. Steel liners under G10 or aluminum scales. The blade was a full 4MM thick as opposed to the 3.5MM stock used now. The pommel was some sort of plastic on the old ones and they were known to break. The Triad lock may be stronger, but the older version overall was more beastly. I had the G10 version and traded it for a Triad lock Recon1 and never looked back.

The current AK has a 4mm blade stock(or close to). The new one may be much lighter, but it definitely has higher structural integrity, not to mention better strength to weight ratio and balance. It may feel flimsier before the knife is more "lively" on the hand due to better balance, but it's a matter of perspective.
IMO the triad version is just a better design from an engineering perspective. It's one of the few lock types where the blade will lock firmly even when one of the g-10 scale has been removed, due to the symmetrical design.

The new ones sport 3.5MM stock, it's on the webpage. I agree the newer ones are an improvement, the older design was also much blockier in hand and in pocket. The older design also had a fuller in the blade, looked nice.
