Old Almite Aluminum Handled Cricket Question.

I received an old aluminum handled Cricket in a trade. I remember hearing something about them a few years ago but never thought much about them. I had an FRN example awhile back but got rid of it after not being very impressed. After receiving this example, I can honestly say this is how the Cricket should have always been produced. The flat aluminum scales make this thing a winner! I removed the clip and it's as flat as a pancake and super handy. MUCH better than the FRN Crickets.

Can anyone tell me what years these were produced and did these almite, (spelling?), coated aluminum handled Crickets come with BLACK coating? I've only seen this one and a picture of another and they are both black almost like a powder coating. Maybe the owners painted them but it doesn't appear so.

If the new stainless handled Crickets are anything like this, they really are now made like they should be.

Gene - that coating is "TufRam". A coating which Spyderco stopped using years ago due to QC issues. They could not get the coating to be deposited consistently.

If you like the aluminum scale version, run, don't walk to you nearest dealer and get the SS version. Integral lock, probably half the thinness of the aluminum version. Rounded scales versus sharp scales. Yowza!

All the tuff ram models I have are kinda greenish grey tan.If that makes sense.

I'd say more dark grey.

At anyrate if you like the Aluminum Cricket I think you'll really like the Stainless one, much slimmer.
