I found this axe head on the bank of the Tennessee River while fishing today. I've never seen one quite like it and my research online has resulted in nothing. Any help identifying this axe head or what it might have been used for would be appreciated. The most interesting/odd thing is there is no hole for a handle. Thanks in advance!

The front half of a rockaway pattern? Idk, but it's pretty dang cool regardless.
this is kind of brilliant thinking A and leads me to the thought that this is a component to a compound construction. I bet it is the core of a wrap that forms a socket, with then further parts making up the bit. It's a known technique. It'd be interesting knowing more about the context of the find like axe related activity and settlement history.

The blade was found along the bank of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. Not sure really about the settlement history, were in Appalachia so were probably looking at a good number of Germans, Scottish, and Irish as far as whiteys go, and Cherokee on the Native side.
