Hi again trying to see if my 2 dollar goodwill find is good or poop lol.
Had alot of rust so went with vinegar for a few hours then hit it with the wire wheel.
The mark is partially gone but looks like a crest of some sort with maybe an eagle? And the other side is too bad of a shape to tell but tried to provide the best pics I could.
Worth restoring or nah?

How much does it weigh? Looks like a rafting pattern. If so, they tend to be fairly hard to come by. Looks like a decent find!

Agree with Dusty, looks like the boy scout fleur-de-lis.

Should be a serviceable axe.
Haft it, and use it.

Rare doesn't really matter.
Awesome yeah after looking at one from what you guys said it seems like it is the scouts mark. The other side should be the plumb mark right? As in theyre guaranteed to be Plumbs? Im not too worried about rare just wondering if it was or wasnt. Thank you for the info though!

yeah, it's probably an old scout hatchet made by Plumb.
I'm jealous of that find- that'll make a great tool.

That's a national pattern Plumb boy scout hatchet with the Fleur De Lis BSA Crest on it.
Not exactly rare or highly valuable but generally desirable, it's less desirable after the vinegar soak though.
Right. National pattern not a rafter. And you can tell from the vinegar bath that the poll is not hardened, assuming one hadn't already come to that conclusion by the deformation of the poll.

It's still a great and valued axe just for the quality and setting aside the added value of the Boy Scout stamp.

They make great camp axes, and the poll is nice for driving tent stakes, most of which are soft and won't mushroom the poll.

If you hit it with a soft wire cup brush on an angle grinder the vinegar soak look will mostly disappear and turn the head a nice shade of grey.

I have several BSA hatchets, most or all with nail-puller notches. Yours looks more like my BSA boy's axe. Give us weight and dimensions. T-A

Looking at the photos, I guess I do have a couple hatchets without nail pullers. Size and location of the marks will tell you more about your treasure. Wish I had found such a deal! T-A
