buddy of mine handed me a smaller rusty (RUSTY!!) old double bit axe a few months ago. It languished in the back of my truck for months until tonight, when i noticed it. Pulled it out, knocked out the broken haft piece and soaked it in Hoppes # 9 before scrubbing most of the rust off. Its a forged ax, there are forge marks, a made in sweden stamp, and best of all, the Gransfors Bruks LOGO!!!!! (the little circular logo with the crown and GBS underneath the crown.)

now the logo is partially worn off due to rust, but it matches the logo on current GB small forest axe.

its a 2.5 lb doublebit, smaller than the throwing axe GB currently sells. cannot find it in the history part of GB website, but an elderly Swede i know looked it over and said GB used to make smaller doublebits for the timber cruisers WAAAAAAY back when.

So, goona find a new handle for it, sharpen it and take it back where it belongs, the woods! then i'ma gonna make it ring on a tree or ten!

pics soon, got no camera no more.

Free is good... especially a piece like that. Nice score. :thumbup:

I found an old double bit Collins the other day for a buck and am cleaning it up.Its surprising what you can find if you just keep your eyes open.--KV

Sounds like a good one...You can soak the head in mustard for a couple days...Cleans up a rusty head pretty good...

Congrats! Great score.:cool:

You might want to go with a 24" haft more like a cruiser axe.

2.5 lbs. on a 14" might be too much. You're talking about a 40 .oz framing hammer.:eek::eek:

^ yup, that sucker will BITE deep. Nessmuk used a 12: haft on his, and the head was similar sized. :p
