Hi guys,

I managed to pick this up recently in a trade... not sure exactly what I have but it seems like an old SHBA? The blade finish is smooth and the grip is amazingly comfortable... I am not sure if I will be able to keep this but if you guys can help me ID and appraise this beast it would be appreciated.

Cheers... now on to the pics...

Yep SHBA, most likely A2. Is the flat area just forward the grip smooth? Did you check it's thickness? Are the spine areas blued steel or look like they were blued in the past? The sheath is a little different than most I have seen with that type of Badger. As to value, hard to tell. I am trying to sell one like it on the exchange and have had no takers between $625 and $575.

Yup, it's a SHBA, most likely in A2 from the smooth bolts and the Eagle sheath. I'm wearing one exactly like it at the moment. If the spine on the handle is blued it's definately A2. If not, put a drop of water or oil on the flats of the ricasso or tang and see if any INFI dimples show up. Some were done in INFI on A2 grinding equipment during the changeover from A2 to INFI. Later ones had the distinctive INFI grind lines.

If you can, hang on to it. It is my favorite Busse bar none and I get to carry it every day.

The spine of the handle is definitely blued... since there is a little aging, but hard to notice unless you are looking for it. I could not see any dimples either... but who knows. Can't measure the exact thickness as I have no micrometer, but to eyeball it against other knives I have it is .25"

I would like to keep it, since it is a beauty, but life sometimes gets in the way of what we often want, eh?

I just bought one almost identical to that one this weekend for around $400 if that helps.

guys, cant you spot a fake? you should just give it to me since it's so disgraceful to have a fake. you dont want to be seen with such cheap steel....:)

Any one got a time frame for the production of A2 SHBAs? Maybe Andre, if he sees this.

Looks like a... KEEPER! Really I wouldn't let that one go. I would find out the thickness, use a ruler if you have to. The fatties are worth much more than the standard 1/4" models. The one I have is close to 0.300, mics out at it's thickest at 0.2910. Yeah the way it fills your hands is incredible, ain't it?

Nice score, Congrats!

Paradiggum, sounds like you got a great deal... but then you live in Ohio and are closer to the source!

Location has nothing to do with it this time. The one I got is .270 at least and is coming in from Illinois.

Dang it's been a while since I've seen that link. :D

Badgers rock! I really would like to see a Fusion handle BA. I understand that Jerry is planning a Tac design but why not the Fusion? The Mean(er) Street got one as did the SH, poor little BA got left behind! :(

Those "oldie" A2 SHBA's defenitly rock:eek:

defenitly one of the one's at the top of my Busse "favorites" list:eek: would never part ways with mine:cool:

Remember that the original design for the BA was directed at hunters. A critical element of that was for the blade to be comfortable in multiple positions in the hand. The TAC handle has that in spades. The EDC (MrS) and Fusion (FSH) designs don't really accomodate that. I personally can't wait for the Badger TAC.
