Old Becker knife

I was just at my local knife dealer and he had a curious knife in the window. It looked like a Brute, but instead of black, it had a shiny grey coating. It seemed to be sterile, no markings I could find. The dealer claimed it was an original Becker knife. It was unused and in great condition. Any ideas?

I have an original Becker, just found that out as a matter of fact. Mine has BK&T Cincinnati, USA on one side and Becker Machax on the other. I don't know if all original Beckers have that on them though.

Alright, the dull silver Brute is from the Blackjack era in the BK&T saga. The Brute started production after Ethan decided to have Blackjack manufacture his knife designs. The other one with the "Cincinnati, OH" stamping is probably one he made in his garage. All of the early pre-Blackjack knives have a black matte finish. BK&T knives made before Blackjack: the Machax, the Warrior Machax (semi-sharp and more angular clip point), and the Tactool (albiet in a fairly different incarnation). I'm not sure when the Campanion came around exactly.

Hi Hey Sharpbits

Secretkungfu has it right... That Brute dates from the Blackjack BK&T era. The blade is not one I am familiar with as the only Brutes I was aware of were in 440A stainless....But when BlackJack went south, I have it on good authority, that a lot of funny things happened..

And a quick note to Secretkungfu... It is Really, Really good to see you here!!!!

All Best
Ethan

Thanks Ethan and everyone else for their posts. I wonder if this blade is actually a knock-off. The coating looks like light gray enamel and, like I said, it's sterile. No stamps, engravings, etchings, stickers, etc. Very curious...

Blackjack made a run of 1095 Campanions, BKT Kukri's, and Brutes (and son of brutes).

To distinguish them from the pack, they had electrostatically applied GRAY (battleship variety) powdercoating. Probably 6-800 of each were made.

Ethan is getting long in the tooth, he has a hard time remembering those little details. :) :) :)

Oh yeah, the son-of brute was a brute without the hammering head on the top of the blade!
