Ok I'm a fan not a nut so I'm not up on everything.
I've been scanning the forums over here and I see mention
of handle types now FRN I get. Granted I don't know what
the heck that stands for but I know it the plasticky one
that used to be the only other option besides SS-
Stainless Steel.. I figured that one out all on my own
but now I'm lost again guys. What the heck is SE vs. PE?
Someone enlighten me please.

:rolleyes:

Howdy Chambers,

FRN stands for Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon.

SE Serrated Edge

PE Plain Edge

And just to add another acronym

CE Combo Edge

Hope this helps.

I knew it. Ten seconds after I make this post it hits me
I'm going to go bury my head in the sand guys.
Let me hazzard a guess PE-Plain Edge? SE-Serrated Edge?

But as long as I'm on (dammit whats the word for a word
that's made up of letters?) what the heck does

BTT stand for? I see it in the forsale posts all the
damn time
Thanks for putting up with me guys..

BTT stands for back to the top as far as I can tell. I would think it would be BTTT?:)

As for the word you're thinking of, it's "acronym".

AFAIK= As Far As I Know
IMHO= In My Humble Opinion
IMNSHO= In My Not So Humble Opinion
YMMV= Your Miliage May Vary
SNAFU= Systems Non-Functional, All F*cked Up
SNFU= Systems Normally F*cked Up
FRN= Fibreglass Reinforced Nylon
BTT= Bring To Top
BTTT= Bring To The Top
SE= Serrated Edge
PE= Plain Edge
CE= Combo Edge

any I missed or you still want?

More likely combo edges are listed by percentage of PE/SE
like normally CE are 50/50
but Native have this odd 30/70 serrations and stuff.

SNAFU= Systems Non-Functional, All F*cked Up

Funny, when I was younger, the term meant "Situation Normal, All F*cked Up". I guess that the Information Age brings us the new meaning.

Also, add this one:
FUBAR: F*ucked Up Beyond All Recognition/Repair

Hi Zach,

Spyderco's acronym library is as follows:

C= found before the model number stands for CLIPIT
K= found before the model number stands for kitchen knife
FB= found before the model number stands for fixed-blade
GS= found before the model number means it's a G. Sakai design
T= found before the model number means it's a tool
TR= found after the model number means trainer
CP= found after the model number means it comes clam-packed
E= found after the model number means it is made with unusual steel (CPM or MBS-26)

P or PE= PlainEdge
S or SE= SpyderEdge
PS or PSE= PlainEdge/SpyderEdge combination
BK= Black
PBK=PlainEdge, black
SBK= you get it
PSBK= same
FRN= Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon- an equivalent name for Zytel
SS= Stainless steel
T= Titanium
MBC= Martial Blade Craft knife
BM= Black Micarta (among other things)

Colors are designated in abbreviation
Orange=OR, Pink=PK, Green=GR, Tan=TN, Blue=BL, Red=RD, Cranberry=CB

and last but not least......Sal's favorite

CMFIC= Chief MF in charge! LOL

FullerH> thats what I get from 7 yrs of air cadets... air force and grunt(army) terms...

I know all the things about not making fun of the grunts, like "whos gonna save you when you crash in the bush", but just remember:

cover the front, and your back end is gonna get shot up. REMFs come from the air as well.

Hey, Vamp, the "Situation Normal, All F*cked Up" comes from the grunts of WWII and Korea. You need to remember that I was born in 1942 and grew up in the shadow of WWII and during Korea listening to my Dad's West Point classmates. They used the term SNAFU all of the time and I finally had to ask my Mother what it meant because my Dad wouldn't tell me. I am unsure as to when the term FUBAR came into use, Korea perhaps, but friends who were there tell me that it was common in the 'Nam.

A small point FYI:

Acronyms and abbreviations are NOT the same. If it's pronouncable, it's an acronym; if not, it's an abbreviation.

So SNAFU is an acronym, while BTTT is an abbreviation.
