Thought I would show you guys some old Blades my Buddy found.Around these parts there is a bunch of old Indian artifacts just under the ground surface & also large pieces of "float copper".Last fall my buddy found a piece that weighed about 5,700 lbs !! He needed a large graple skidder to get it out of the woods. The lg.one in this pic is close to 500 lbs. Some interesting blades too. One Double edge Knife with a very distinct distal taper can be seen. There is also what looks to be a spear point, some trade beads (that is how those who didn't smelt the copper themselves aquired material to make blades etc.)and what looks like could be an early gut hook.I might add that all of the Blades he comes across are a copper damascus with very clear layers.Something different I thought you might enjoy.More pics in next post : )

I'm with Iggy, that stuff's cool! But.............

I think you are probably violating the federal antiquities law by removing the indian artifacts. For that matter I believe that removeing anything manmade that's been lying around on public land for over 50 years is a violation.
Could be wrong on this, but I'd check it out before posting anymore of your finds.

Very cool man, I love this kind of stuff. I fine alot of artifacts around here but only in stone. Thanks for showing.

micad,If you will read the post a little more carefully you'll see that it is a buddy of mine that is finding the atifacts. He makes a pretty good living finding float copper & artifacts around these parts. He has sold most to colleges and small shops around the area.He also got quite a bit of "press" when he found that huge chunk last fall.BTW,he finds all of it with a metal detector, which is a very popular hobby around here because of the abundance of float and other neat stuff. If it is illegal as you claim noboby is hiding anything or being sneaky about their finds. Also there is quite a bit of privately owned land up here that people "hunt" on. In fact there is an old Indian Trade Trail that goes along the backside of my 40.I would much rather see it found and share it with the public than let it be swallowed up by mother earth never to be seen again.I see on TV that there are quite a few fossils being found lately too like say "mammoth ivory" ? . Beautiful stuff eh? I know that is not manmade but it is kind of the same scenario wouldn't you say ? No disrespect meant here micad,JMHO.

Dave, It is great to see these pieces come to light. My father and I have both hunted the Flint Ridge area in central Oh. for 40 years or so. Most of the pieces we find are flint, chert or granite. Hunting with a metal detector sounds like great fun. Most of the laws that govern antiquties in the U.S. have to do with digging into mounds, like we have here in the east, or the sights that are on government land. Hunting on private land as long as you are not digging into a mound is cool. Post again if any more good stuff is found. Fred
