Hello everyone. Can you help me with any information on this knife? My Grandfather has it and thinks it was his father's. Just checking what year it might be. Here are the pics. From a little research, it looks like it has TREE BRAND on the blade with 7588 on the blade. It says "BOKER Solingen GERMANY" with a tree beside it on the biggest blade. On the outside it says Solingen with a tree above it. It is excactly 3.5" long. Please find the attached pictures. Thanks for a little help with family history.

Nice knife. I believe with the tree and Boker Solingen Germany all stamped on the front of the master blade tang and no other tangs stamped, this knife was made sometime after 1970ish. Here is one from 1974-75... model 7588 with similar tang stamp and blade etch.

I've always wondered if there is a chart or diagram somewhere that we could use to date Boker knives. Something similar to Queen stamps or Case stamps..

Nice knives guys, Smiling knife,I have a new, couple years old boker stockman, and the blades are very thin, the ones in your photo seem to be a bit thicker,is it just the pic or did the older knives have thicker blades?
Thanks, LOTO

Interesting question but I Don't know the answer to that at the moment. I will take them out and make a comparison and let you know tomorrow. These 1970s knives do have a different 'feel' to them compared to the recent knives but it is hard to explain. Seem a little more solid.

Hi Loto... I compared three different knives (whittler, small stockman, congress) from this 1970s series against the modern equivalent pattern number. In each case the blades, springs and overall handles are thicker in the 1970s version.

Sunburst... so far I have not found a definitve guide to dating Bokers. Goins provides a useful starting point. If anyone has a source on this please let us know.

Hello smiling knife...Thank You for the information!I havn't handled any older Bokers but I had a feeling they were made a little differerntly.

The same seems true to me for a lot of brands, the older knives just feel more solid, especially the slippies.
