Never seen a "bread" knife, I like it. So you used the gun blue stuff to remove the rust? I'm unclear on that...

I always liked those ol' bread knives. Much easier to touch up with sharpening rods than modern serration patterns, and smoother in the cut, if less aggressive at biting in at first. They do tend to be a little on the flimsy side, but their designated task wasn't exactly strenuous so it's kind of a non-issue, mostly.

I just used the gun blue to highlight the etch and then went gently over it with the pumice stone.

It was really fast and easy. Pumice stones work really well for removing rust, and I didn't try to make it look like new or anything. I don't think I spent ten minutes cleaning up the blade.

I believe it was our member here Trailsawyer that shared that trick for cleaning up crosscuts.

Just wanted to add, use water or oil with the pumice stone.
