Howdy.

On the trail at a local park this morning I found an old Buck model 112. This one has what looks like the original and rather battered leather sheath, and the handle scales have 3 pins...

You guys have any idea on the age of this thing and what the steel might be?

Thanks,
Joe

Left side only: Buck, 112 under that, then U.S.A. in small print under that is all.

check for some dots , like in this one

Appreciate the info, thanks Gents...I collect more modern Benchmades but owned a 110 in the Scouts in late 60's...I may keep this for awhile, nice knife. Sorry to the guy who dropped it...!

Well I suspect he's going to be unhappy he lost it.
Its been well cared for despite being in used condition.
You should make an effort to find the old fella...(I just guessing there).

Sweet, awhile back a fellow forumite up and gave me one, I have a soft spot for 440C, and it's a keeper!!!

Guys did you notice Karp's knife has a lanyard hole in the rear bolster.
Great find.DM

I was in photobucket so here are numbers 2 and 3 of the aforementioned version. Segua and Micarta. Don't have the ebony but want one without the hole.....no one mentioned Joes sticky above, If anyone wants 110 or 112 history timetable............300

I guess your saying #2 because of the stainless lock.On the same year models my slabs look different. Thanks for posting 300.DM

I noticed that variation in 'shades' you are talking about, bet bucksway and Scott have also. Especially in ebony and segua. If your unlucky the different scales don't match.....300
Just some 112s

Hi guys,

I'm going to send the 112 up to Buck for servicing and sharpening, and while there I'd like to get it cleaned up. I've found the Buck website and know the charge to sharpen it is $6.95.

Does it cost any more to have them do the cleanup and polishing while it's there?

I left a message this morning but haven't heard back fom them yet...the message said their turnaround is 3 to 4 weeks which is OK, I'm in no hurry.

Thanks,
Joe

Cleaning and polishing has been part of the sharpening service, in the past...

They will also fill in that ugly lanyard hole and polish it so you won't even notice it was there. :)

...JUST KIDDING!!!!... :D

(About the hole! But now I wonder if that is considered an un-warranteed modification...)

You'd better ask...Buck may consider that to be dangerous and not work on it at all...

Question: I called Buck this morning and was only able to leave a message regarding the actual shipping costs. It's past 5PM today and I did not get a call back.

I'm used to the prompt customer service from other vendors, is their delay in responding normal? The message also said the turnaround was 4 to 5 weeks which is a long time...

Just wondering what you guys know, or should I just drop a check in the mail for the $6.95 the site says to pay?

Thanks,
Joe

Well, it's only $6.95 + postage, but I'd wait and see if they'll work on it at all...The lanyard hole might disqualify it for any factory work... :(
