No problem the links worked, and welcome to the forum btw. You can copy the url from Flickr then in the window where you write out your post, click o the photo symbol between the smiley and the film looking symbol, past the url there and it should add it to your post.

I can't tell from your pics but Buck put out an early model 501 with "Red Buckarta" handles. That was Buck's name for it but it was actually Burgundy or Maroon Linen Micarta. Those had an exposed rocker pin which I don't see on yours.

I believe there were some Black Micarta 501's produced but I cannot confirm that.

That’s interesting. Under certain lighting, my handle is actually a dark red fabric texture. I sure hope I didn’t get a fake Buck lol

I don't think your knife is a fake. One thing that I've learned since I very recently began researching Buck history is that like many other older brands, nothing is carved in stone and there are lots of variations that may or may not be archived.

If your handles have a red tint then my guess is that you have a genuine Red Buckarta 501. Rocker pin or not. That's just my opinion but I think it's pretty safe to say that your knife is a genuine Buck knife.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you stick around and I hope to see more of your posts in the future. Glad to have you here!

 For additional information and if the mood should strike you, we have a Buck sub forum where you can post questions about your knife or any Buck knife.

There are some very knowledgeable Buck collectors there and the Moderator is the Quality Manager at Buck. Another great sub forum that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Just don't forget about us folks on "The Porch".:D:)

I’ll definitely check it out! Thanks!

The 501s with the visible rocker pin (3 visible pins) are the earliest. I think it was around '78 that they switched to the 2 visible setup; but I'd have to check my notes to say for certain.
If, when you referenced the different profile/ shape, you were referring to the blade - is likely just a factor of being sharpened over the years

I was told that the blade itself was never sharpened. I meant the handle was shaped differently than my other bucks. Like the edges of the handle wasn’t “rounded” and seemed boxy if that makes any sense

You see more variation in the profile of the earlier blades than in the current (Idaho) blades. You have a genuine Buck Knife - nice one too. OH
