I'm looking for general knowledge on a knife my son got from his grandpa. In particular weather it should be kept a little better srawer in A drawer. Also how rare it may or may not be. Working on picture but here is quick description. It's buck 120 general one line. Only says buck on it, but with a asterisk after the word buck.

Also it came with sheath in perfect condition as well as the knife. Looks to be never used. Box is not quite as good. Still have the paper work that came in the box as well.

Here is a link to a Buck date code legend that can give you a date range, your knife is very early production: http://www.buckknives.com/about-knives/how-old/

Detailed photos of the sheath, front and reverse (particularly of the snap face), and of the tang stamp plus clear close pics of the handle showing the spacer material would be helpful.

It is a collector's item that would be dear to a 120 collector. With unused sheath, box and papers it is a prized gem.

Probably has more value to you and your son. Keep it and pass it on to your grandson... That is priceless

Upon further review it might be 119 special. I'm not positive I can tell or know the difference between the two.

119 blade length is 6 inches. 120 blade is over 7 inches long.

I cannot see your photo(s), unfortunately.

I thought the 119 was first produced in1960 something. linky no worky. However When was the 120 first made? . just curious

A reference series of photos of MY vintage 120 and newer 119 for your amusement (120 on top and 119 below) (notice the much longer Fuller/Blood Groove on the 120 and the different number and different color of the spacers on the handles):

Also, this might have a better shot moved over to the Buck sub-forum. There are some very knowledgeable people over there.
