Do the older Bucklites like the 422, for example, have any sort of washers for the blade or does it just pivot between the plastic of the scales? For nostalgic reasons I just purchased a 422 from 1989 to replace the one I lost 17 years ago. The blade is still nice and tight with no side to side play.

It's exactly like my old one except no scars on the scales where I dropped it down the garbage disposal while cleaning a trout. Yeah, seeing that thing spin around blade up in the sink was a little scary😮. I gutted by first buck and many a fish with that old knife. Had to get another one!

I'm going to say probably not. They may have tried it on a model or two.
I went thru my various bucklocks (none the age of yours) and the buck 112 lt and the slim 112 and none have washers.
Interesting question. Also of note , Spyderco Delicas don't have washers either. So maybe they aren't needed.🤔

Do your Delicas not have washers? Mine have small phosphor bronze ones.

The old early 2000's one I had didn't have washers. I had asked the dealer about the lack of washers and was told it didn't need them.
He was right, a drop of oil and off I went.

Thanks for the Likes and comments so far. I saw a year 2000 422 but the blade stamping read "112". Did Buck do that or is that a replacement blade?

I believe it could be either. Buck is known to use whatever was needed and/or found it's way into 'the pile' during production runs. The 560 Ti model for example can be found with a 560 or 110 stamped blade.

What happens is on the line if the 422 blade bin gets empty the employee grabs a handful of 112 blades to keep the line going. It happens the other way too but much more rarely. I have kept a mental list over the years since I collect odd 112's and my best guess is about 20 to one. I don't count build outs or Christmas sale knifes because that is done on purpose..

My 1991 (Black, top picture) is marked as a 422 but my 2000 (Orange, bottom picture) is marked as a 112. OH

I also have the 112 in orange from 2000 and a 501 in orange. If I recall right the handles were 'factory finds' and then blades added.
I also bought 503 and 501 made with leftover Stag pieces .

I like that orange one, and it sure makes a lot of sense. I swear my next iPhone case will be orange. I waste so much time looking for for it in its black case!

Makes sense, every orange handled BuckLite shown from 2000 is tang stamped 112. OH

What year did the Buck 422 transition from its original style to the version we see in the previous photos with the ridged running along the backspring side?
