Old C07 Police or the new Police 3.

I've owned probably 5-6 seperate C07 model Spyderco Police's since I started collecting and trading knives. I think that that blade is probably my favorite production folder ever, in stainless steel and full se edge configuration. I just bought and lost a fully serrated Police 3, had it for less than a month unfortunately, but in that time once I got over the flat-grind and the aesthetic departures from the C07 I began to suspect that it really is superior to the older Police. I know the C07 has an unusually strong lock for such a thin knife but can any owners tell me how their Police 3's stack up compared to the older models as far as lock strength, cutting capacity etc goes? I never really got to know my new Police and I can't see myself shelling out the $200 it roughly costs for a new one anytime soon. Thanks in advance.

I have both and I like the ffg and G-10 better myself. Neither of these are among my users, but the Police 3 seems to handle a lot better and I think it's the better looking knife.

For me, it boils down to how I want to carry it. I find the G-10 of the P III somewhat irritating to carry inside my waistband, which is where I normally carry my Police. In general, I detest metal handles, but for IWB carry I prefer them. The P III also has the flat grind which I greatly prefer to the saber grind of the first two generations, but the saber grind seems to support serrations better than the flat grind in my experience. There is probably a reason the stainless C07 has been in Spyderco's top five best sellers for twenty-five years. Too bad the blade is too long to carry legally here without grinding it down (I only have one I can carry legally).

So I take it you're a fan of the Police model? :D

Nice collection.

Yeah, I kinda like it. ;)

As far as lock strength goes, the full length skeletonized steel liners help that, and the slightly longer blade providing a bit more leverage against the lock reduce it a bit, but overall, it should be very close to the strength of the stainless model. The full flat grind and slightly longer cutting edge make for superior cutting ability but reduced prying ability. The P III is a better cutting tool, but the stainless model is a better all-around tool.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm still not convinced on looks. The C07 is sexier, but to each their own. Awesome pics by the way.
