I am not a collector of "mint condition" anything. I am an avid user of vintage outdoor gear. I bought a Camillus Fisherman's Luck knife very cheap. It has a broken tip (about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch is missing). There is some substance (looks like mastic glue for linoleum tile) on the blade. Not too much, it seems to come off with a Popsicle stick and patience.

The blade appears to be nickel plated - does anyone know if this is true?

My plan would be to sharpen a new tip while shortening the blade as little as possible. How would one sharpen a plated blade - any advice?

Pictures later I am not in a position to post them today.

I want to bring this fine old girl back to useful condition and hopefully she cleans a fish or two. I have an antique fly rod that was my grandfather's - I rarely use it but I want my daughter to catch at least one fish with it. This knife would be a nice accessory to it.

Those were made from 1948 until the early 60s. Not sure if it's nickel, but they did come with some sort of chrome plating and were known to be really sharp. The bolsters are nickel for sure.
