Old Camillus MAXX vs. New MAXX

I may be able to get my hands on an older Camillus MAXX a guy is willing to sell me. I heard that it was made of thicker Ti. I would just like to know is how much thicker is the handle. Is it thick enough that you notice the knife in your pocket a lot more.
That is one thing that I like about the MAXX. It is huge, but you don't always notice the knife there because it is light and thin.
Also, is the older MAXX significantly heavier?
I wonder if anyone knows?

I haven't got a thinner one to compare, but the older model is 1/8" thick slabs, for a total handle thickness of 7/16", and weighs about 6 oz.

If I remeber right, the new one weighs 7 oz. That's weird.
Anyone know the thickness of the new one. Mine is on its way to STR.

Approximately. I weighed it on a small kitchen scale. Maybe the old Ti slabs are foamy. :p

Well, I just checked the site and the it says the lock is 0.125" thick. That is the same as the old version. Maybe there is more of a palm swell. Esav, does your handle feel flat or is there any roundness to it. The new one is definitely flat. Very little curve on the top portion of the handle.

I have two of them. One I got second-hand, the other was from a first shipment of the knives, I had pre-ordered it. Same size, totally flat scales.

My large regular Sebenza is minimally thicker.

My MAXX is definitely has scales thinner than those of a Sebenza. Maybe the specs at the Camillus website is from the original Maxx.

I read somewhere that the very first MAXX's were made from .150" titanium and that the newer ones are from .125" titanium. If I remember correctly, there was a shortage of the thicker titanium and so Camillus switched over to the thinner stock. I can't validate what I said, I can only say "Somebody said..........)

FWIW someone who worked for DR told me that the thicker handles were made by DR himself.

I bought the first Maxx I saw (a clip point, obviously); I later bought a second, in dagger format. I haven't measured the thickness, but there is a discernible difference in the thickness of the scales. I still carry the older knife; it's not noticeably bulkier or heavier in my pocket than the newer version.

The scales on the first model also are smoother than those of the later model. The second one has more of a matte finish; the first has more polished scales.
