Hi.
Just got an older case whittler, the two smaller blades have little snap on the clip, and no snap whatsoever on the pen...

After oiling, and toothpicking the two, the clip seems to have a little snap to it now...

I was considering using the mineral oil bath method discussed here previously.

But I'm concerned about the handle material, if it will survive the oil bath.

It's listed as "black composite" in the guides I have.

would it be safe to submerge in mineral oil?

Also, are there any handle materials that will not survive the mineral oil bath treatment?

thanks!

Bill

I'm not totally sure that you need to soak it in mineral oil.

The main reason to do that to a knife is to preserve and protect the Stag, Bone or Horn scales.

If your just wanting to clean out the joints, then I would blast it with an aresol spray like Rem-Oil. Some folks use WD-40, but with a knife that has synthetic scales, I am leary of using it, I have done it in the past and found WD-40 to actually dissolve the surface of the handle a little with some synthetics. I actually left a permanent thumbprint in the scale of a knife from where I was holding it when I sprayed it with WD-40!
