So I recently obtained a few older case knives and am looking to fix one of them, the other I am sending to case be cause i believe its beyond my skill. Ill post photos of the other one soon but this is the one I would like to fix.

No real damage just some stubborn rusting on the blade;

So how would I go about removing this?

In addition to the fixing of the knife, does anyone know how old it might be? The Shield is pinned so pre-eighty's, but beyond that im not sure.

For some extra info on the knife the spey blade on it has "For flesh only" printed on the blade.... Is/was that normal?

Here is another of the knife and a close up of the tang stamp.

The "For Flesh Only" is a common stamp of the era.

I'd try Flitzing the staining out first, you might be able to reduce them to just ghosts using that method. 0000 Steel and mineral oil wouldn't cause much harm either.

It's a 1978 knife.

Oops, 1972 is right.

that's an 8 dot(1972) pattern 47
the "for flesh only" is normal
What were you going to fix? just the spots of rust? other wise i would leave the patina but that's just me....

Id say that was a successful purchase..

I'd leave it pretty much alone, looks great! A little super-fine steel wool, and some mineral oil, and it'll be just fine.
