Hello everyone, I think I can get more info here in the traditional forum. I found this old case xx today. Can somebody tell me how old it really is? Are the handles bone? Would you bother to clean it up? All i can make out on the tang is case xx. The handle is almost smooth now. And it does not have the Case badge on it. Paid 5 whole dollars for it. Thank you for any info.

Noob question: Was there a time when Case used only carbon steel in their knives? If so, when did they introduce the new-fangled stainless stuff?

They had tang stamps back as far as 1916 with "Case's Stainless" on them.

That particular knife is a 620035 - it dates from the 1949-1950 era until about 1962 when it was discontinued. That pattern was actually made by Schrade/Ulster/Kingston on contract for Case, as a lower priced alternative the the Case 6235 pattern that was made in-house at Case. There was also a clip blade version, 620035 1/2.

Handles are jigged black composition, blades are carbon steel.
