Today I dug out one of my older Buck catalogs. It is from the late 1970s to early 1980s, maybe someone can tell for sure based on the models. Anyway, here it is, enjoy.

lamb I would have to guess the early 80's, because it has the Clasic family in it. I am sure someone with more knowledge will be on here shortly. HL

I don't knoiw for sure, but the 110's still have the non-radiused bolsters, and judging by the prices i'll say late 70's early 80's.Thanks for showing us the booklet,i love looking at these things.

Doesn't the catalog have a printed date on it? Also, are the pictures clear enough to see the tang stamps. Date symbols began in 1985. If details aren't clear in the pictures, the prices would be another clue.

Yeah it cant be 70's cause the 500's are birchwood instead of micarta. I'd guess 82 because of the 507.

I'd have to say 1982 as the "NEW" beside the Classic series . The Ultima I came out in 1980 . DM

I agree with David - 1982. I'm looking at the 700 series. There are only four models shown rather than five. The 704 is missing, which was introduced in the 1983 catalog. The 705 and 709 were introduced in the 1982 catalog.

How to decipher the alpha numeric code found on most Buck advertising since the early 1980's

After some resizing and checking the number at the bottom of the back page, I also came up with '82. the best I can tell the alpha numeric code reads "FS382560M". The "0" may be a D, I can't tell for sure.

Thanks, Plumber for finding that code -- thats it . Rusty you beat me to that clue as I was just looking at this again . Good input guys . DM

Fellows, I have been told by the Great Seer-JH, to not use the knives date codes in the catalogs to exactly date the page, they used the same photos for several years sometimes......FYI

That was listed in the Larry Oden article about the 116 in the BCCI May '07 newsletter, as "a longstanding tradition" to use the same picture well after the datestamp may be outdated.

"Please note
that Buck advertising material did not picture the new point-up stampings until 1979.
Instead, Buck continued a long-standing tradition of using old pictures well after changing
tang stamps
."

And if it is 1982, the store I got it from was giving out old catalogs. I was in Germany 1981-1983, so I would have picked it up after returning in early 1983.
