I was going to post this in G&G, but its not knife related, so I don't know.

Anyway, I was wondering what I could do with old cell phones and related equipment that works perfectly fine, but is not turned on b/c I have since moved on for various reasons?

Anyone have any ideas? If I have to trash it I will, but would rather do something productive.

Thanks.

Check with your local police/courts. There are various programs that take donated cell phones and pre-program them for 911 to give to domestic abuse victims.

Moving to G&G.

G&G is meant for discussion of non-knife related items.

I picked up a new phone last year because some drunk college girl spilled her alcoholic beverage on my phone and after cleaning, one of the buttons still doesn't work. The reason I haven't donated it or sold it? The button that doesn't work is the number 9. :grumpy:

Most cell carriers accept used phones at their retail locations. The phones are refurbed, reprogrammed, and given to charities. A lot of office supply type stores, Staples, Office Depot, that sort of place, will too.

Otherwise, Goodwill will probably take 'em.

Even if your phone has a minor problem such as the 9 key not working, donate it. Attach a note saying "button 9 doesn't work because it got spilled on." They may be able to clean it up and get it working again. Otherwise, they'll dispose of it in an environmentally-safe way.

Can you elaborate on this? Our phones are considered Haz-Mat when we go to throw them out?

Thanks.

Duh on me! I thought you might have been talking about some radioactive gasses contained inside the microchips.

Thanks again.
