Old Cell Phones

I use my newest phone, and my 2nd newest phone i will keep as backup, and i just throw any phones that are older than those 2 in my dad's junk box lol.

After I clear the memory I give mine to the local women's shelter along with the charger. They in turn pass them along to people, women mostly, that are having problems with stalkers, angry ex's, and other predators. Any cell phone whether it currently has service or not can be used to call 911 as long as it is charged. There are a lot of battered women out there that can't afford cell service but a phone to call for help is a great comfort and potential live saver.

I usually donate my old ones, but I recently upgraded and am considering doing the following with my most recent old one:

Get one of those Energizer cell phone chargers that takes AA's.
Store the phone, the Energizer charger, and some lithium AA's in my emergency car kit.

As mentioned above, a cell even without service can call 911. For that reason I think it would be good to have as a backup.

You could also keep one on a charger by your bedside as an emergency phone in case of any type of emergency which also severs your landlines (a burglar, for example, with some smarts).

I realize that cell phones do not offer the same quickness in response that landlines do for 911 (in terms of dispatching authorities to the proper location), but a live cell is better than a dead landline.

In my area it's the Sheriff's Department that distributes old cell phones to the elderly. Might be some other group where you live....

We have a very similar service here in Montgomer County, that gets old cell phones to the elderly and struggling single mothers.

Alot of things like old cell phones, eye glasses, can be given to a good cause and to people who are less fortunate than us, to be used.

threw away accu and gave to my kid a sa toy )
sold one for cheap
gave one to my mother-in-law (it is Ericsson t28, still working)

I got so mad at my AT&T phone that I threw it in the lake in my back yard. Boy that felt good.

Yes, this is excellent. In our area they give the phones to the women's shelter. I love this idea!!
