Hi everyone.
There's a guy in my area here that buys out places going out of business. Any business. Frequently, he has some great deals on machinist equipment, and recently I picked up an old Delta metal-cutting bandsaw in very decent, 100% clean and perfect shape. Its got the gearbox, and large oil cup right in the front. I haven't measured the low and high speeds coming out of that gearbox yet, but that sucker can go pretty slow.
Question: Does anyone know a site I can go to to identify this saw, and determine via the serial number what year and model it is? I saw on one site that the serial number indicates it was manufactured in 1944, but I can't find a model number anywhere. Delta's website is garbage unless you happen to own their new (garbage) machines.
Also, I was thinking of replacing the base and the 1/2hp AC motor with a 3/4hp DC motor, just to provide some smoother pwoer, and less hassles to change speeds. Do any of you think this is sacriligeous on such an old, and nice machine?
