If I take Maisy on a decent hike now days she is too stiff to go on another the following day. Today was one such day but not wanting to waste any time outdoors we always find less strenuous options !:D:thumbup:

Pitdog, when I first read the title of this thread, I thought you were talking about yourself!!

Maisy's body may be getting old, but her spirit still seems young.

Maisy is awesome.

This thread couldn't be any better timed, pitdog. I used to spend most of my time on BF hanging around WSS. I still get here once in a while, but nowhere near as often as I used to. I was putting my three year old to sleep yesterday, and one of the things that went through my head as I was laying on the floor were you and Maisy. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't clicked on one of your threads in a few years, and I remember Maisy being pretty white around the snout back then. I'm glad to see she's still kicking around and raising heck! How's Snickers doing?

My Cattle Dog is in the same boat as Maisy. But she loves to swim so we do that on her off, non walk days. She will swim though until I'm afraid she's going to drown.

My Jack Russell though hates swimming, only wading for her.

Well this old dog still enjoys being out there. Nice to see you and your gang back for a visit Pit.

I remember when snicker was still afraid of water. Good to see you and your pups out and about!

Enjoy the pics of Maisey as always. I have a Jack Russel that is very old. He was having so much trouble walking that I had started to consider putting him down(even though I didn't know if I had the courage to do it) At the recommendation of a friend I started giving him Glucosamine and the difference is unbelievable. Improvement in him was noticed with a couple of weeks and I still can't believe how much he has improved. He's only been on the pills for a couple of months. I don't know how long it will help but I do know I'm glad that I am able to give him a better life for now.

Nice pit, enjoy everyday......had to put down my trailbuddy Spot the lab just before xmas at 14.5yrs.

He really only slowed the last 2 years, mostly the last 6 months. I could have held on longer but it would have been for me, not for him.

Regards

Did the same with Maisy quite some time back buddy, the results were almost instant.

Brad,
You are a true animal/ K-9 lover that has realized that its about the quality of their life. Not our selfishness to want to keep them around. I had a Terrier mix for over 16.5 years and I adopted her so ?? I called here a Irish Terrorist. She was like having a 65lb pound jack.
I bought a tram so I could push her over to the park by the ocean so she could hobble around over there. This dog would drag fallen palm fronds that were over 25 ft long maybe 70-90 lbs and drag them down the sidewalk for blocks in her younger years and love to play with Pits at the dog park. She would get them to chase her and run them into trees and park benches. LOL I wish I had some video of her in action! LOL

Long live Maisy! Glucosamine, can help, Rymidyl is a vet prescribed med you might check into?

We all dread that day! Maisy will give you a look one day that she really isn't having any fun anymore and you will know that it's her time.

Thanks Rhino, Spot carried 20 to 25lb saddlebags from 1yr to 12yrs on many backpacking trips.
Some being 8 to 17 days!!

People used to ask me if he was a pit or rottie cross because he was so ripped with a narrow waist, not like most barrel labs.
The vet used to call him Quadzilla!
In his prime he used to swim out in 8 to 10 foot breakers at Long Beach with the surfers and play in the currents and wave channels

And yeah its the dull somewhat sad look in the eye's when they are just relaxing with no stimulus to bring them out/up, coupled with diminished mobility.

Good talking with you
