New here..Came across this forum the other day and made me want to put some work into an old Emerson CQC-7 that I’ve had since around 2001. I used it as a daily carry back then and one day I was with my girlfriend and the tread peeled back on her tire. As it was the only thing I had on me,I had to use it to cut through the steel radials on the tire to keep it from beating around in the wheel well. Worked great with some effort but really did a number on the knife. So I decided to give it a little Tlc after all theese years. Cleaned everything up with scotch brite and did a little hand gimping on the rear to add a little traction. It was resharpened a few years ago.
Before: After I started adding the gimping figured I would take a pic.

Nicely done.

When folks say "Scotch Brite" in relation to polishing a knife, and I have seen makers use the same term, exactly what are we talking about? I ask because that's a name brand I believe, so I am never quite sure what is being used.

I used scotch brite maroon pads and removed all the coating by hand except where the radials dug in. I had to use a pad on an air grinder. I believe knife makers use the kind for a belt sander.

Nice job! Looks ready for many more years of service. Thanks for sharing the story.
