Anyone has old family pictures ?.

Some years ago my father gave me photocopies of some old pictures that he had around, I don't know what was of the originals. Today I decided to scan them before they get lost or damaged.

Here's a picture of my grandfather with his parents, taken in 1904 when grandpa was 4 years old.

When my grandmother passed away several weeks ago, the entire family sifted through several plastic tubs of photographs, looking for any pics of her (BTW, every single photo she was in, she was either holding one of her kids, her grandkids, or was standing next to her kids or grandkids :)). Anyway, we should at least photocopy ours.

Do you have any landscape pictures? I was looking at old pics my mother had taken when they bought the property they currently live on, and a lot has changed. Any old pics of Mexico City? Not making a joke in the least, but anybody in the family fight with Pancho Villa? Any pics of that type?

Cool thread idea, Don Luis. For some reason I am always fascinated by old photos of people even if I have no idea who they are. I guess it is just a peek at another time that gets me. Here are two shots of my parents that I had enlarged and put in frame together. Probably from the 30's when they were in their teens.

I don't have any old pictures of Mexico, surely there much be plenty, I see them in TV often.

Pancho Villa?, I'm afraid that I don't have a good opinion of him, sorry. As far as I know my family did not participate much in the Mexican Revolution, grandpa (the kid in the picture) was a banker, grandma was studying art in Mexico City, my other grandparents had left the country and were legal residents in the USA (my mother was born in Chicago in 1923), they came back to Mexico in 1929.

Thomason, man I like those bikes ! (both, but specially the motorcycle).

Record rememberences while chattng with older loved ones.Family lore is easily lost with unexpected deaths. I used a camcorder .

Fortunately,my late Uncle , a genologist & 2 Cousin schoolteachers researched family history for years & wrote a book " Currituck Legacy " about us starting in the late 1600's on North Carolina's Outer Banks. It covers up to & through my Father's generation, chronicling the hardships & successes through all those years.
I purchased copies fo my children & one day my grandkids might read it.

I have seen our society change during my many years.

Probably , when I pass on ,I'll just be an old man that died.

We had a lot of pictures from previous generations at one time, but like too many families these days, we are now scattered all over and much has been lost.

The key is to talk to someone in the family who knew the people in the picture and can talk about the person, place, and circumstances. Once you get them going, one story leads to another...and another...and another...:D Too often though, we only look at these pictures after someone has passed away, then the history is gone and it's too late. Best to enjoy while it's still possible.

By the way, both you and Thomason have a fine-looking family.

Since I am the only one of the kids with an appreciation of such stuff, my mother gave me a big box of old family photos. She is 85, and has just completed my request that she go through them and label them with names, places, circumstances.

Working in a retirement complex, I'm at the receiving end of families throwing out their parents belongings...I've accumulated a number of old photo's that people have chucked...amazing what happens to "your stuff" when you die!

I've been playing with photoshop to restore some old pics we've had for years. I'll put up one of my army pics from 1964 later.
