Old file into a knife 10XX?

This one was made from an old file. Best guess its a 10XX annealed, hardened and tempered like 10XX. Done on a 10 inch wheel it is probably the sharpest knife I have ever made. Effortlessly take the hair off my arm. Handel of maroon linen Micarta left kind of rough.

I believe most files were made from W-1 not 1095. Similar, but not he same. W-1 is water hardening, 1095 is oil hardening.

Nice work! I have always had good luck heat treating files like 1095. Wayne Goddard says to use oil because water can cause too much stress on the steel. I think maybe it is because knife blades are so much thinner than files.
