Years ago during a move my prize axe "developed legs" and disappeared. I am currently on a very strict budget as I am helping to raise three young grand-daughters, but I finally found the funds to replaced it yesterday. I've owned some other axes since, but nothing ever has performed for me as well as a Snow and Nealley 24" Hudson Bay Camping Axe. I consider the Hudson Bay configuration, for my needs, the handiest and most useful set-up available. Make it a Snow and Nealley and in my estimation you've got pretty near perfection. Made in Maine since 1864. I can hardly wait until she arrives.

I have never used one, but by the picture in the link, it's a good looking tool.

If they are made like they used to be, then I think I'll be pleased. I used that old S&N hard......and only had to replace the handle once in 28 years !......everything from taking out the roots of stumps to extended canoe trips through the Fulton Chain and the Boundary Waters, to removing the hind quarters on big game. While a Hudson Bay may not be the lightest tool for an individual heading out into the woods all alone, for a group, or with horses/mules, or canoe ........a Hudson Bay is right handy.
