i got a knife from my friend. its a gerber,on the blade it says bolt action exchange utility blade. the blade can easily be pulled out when in the correct pos. i searched on the net and found a recall on some knives with this feature. is this knife dangerous? is it worth anything?

Hmmm...the "bolt action" locking system was designed by Blackie Collins and as far as I know, the blade should be secure when locked. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it can be pulled out when in the "correct" position. Only you can determine whether it's safe, and that only by your own personal testing. The older Gerbers were quite good and used very good blade steel. If the knife is in great condition and is not operating properly, you might want to contact Gerber, tell them the problem and see if they'll fix it. I wish they still made these (and others not currently in production), but they're putting out a lot of junk these days.

what i mean is at a little more than nintey degrees you pull the blade stait back into the handle and it pulls out

Could it be a Gerber Freeman Exchange a Blade knife? (silly me, of course not)

Nah, he's talking about the Gerber Bolt-Action Exchange-A-Blade knife.
Consists of a handle with a sliding button on the side that was used
to unlock the blade to fold it up.
When you unlock it, fold the blade halfway towards closed the blade
could be removed from around the pivot by sliding towards you and down.
Came with a sheath to hold the blades etc..
I had a few and ended up giving/selling them all.
Had some of Buck's design as well. It used the handle of a Bucklite.

**Edit to add**
Gerber marketed knives called "Bolt-Action", "Exchange-A-Blade" and "Bolt-Action Exchange-A-Blade".
Not that it couldn't be even more confusing. :D

I wouldn't venture to say more than $30-$50, so yeah, a beater for sure.
I've never seen swappable blade knives go for much, not a huge following.
I say "Use it!" :D

Here is a picture of one. They definitely had a limited folowing but I have found a few guys who really like them, i think they are popular with deer hunters. I have owned a few including this one and find that a mint example can get up to about $120 with all three blades. There were also one or two other blades made for them. The blades are easy to change and lock up pretty solid.
